Commercials on the tele

Dear interweb,

people usually complain about the long, bad and ugly commercials on the tele: "When will the movie/series return?", "Not another tampon-product!" and "Do you really believe that this wash detergent is better than product XYZ?".

The next morning they will talk to their friends and/or co-workers (this may or may not be true for every line of work) and they will talk about the game or talent show they have seen. If it was a funny, original or just a great commercial they will also mention it in the conversation. But there will also be people that will talk about the bad 'n ugly of them. Some find certain TV-adds just stupid, sexist or so simple that they will get stuck in your head.

But think it thru, what else did these adds do with you besides make you laugh or annoyed? Just like most things on the radio or tele, they are fuel. Fuel to start a conversation, to have something new or interesting to say during break-time. Some people remember those commercials after seeing them only once, and when people ask something about it they can answer that question. It may not be much, but these adds have other uses besides just showing of a product and trying to stand out.

So, next time: just watch the commercials if you noticed on the floor that it is a subject your colleagues talk about. If not, you can do like I do: put the TV on mute during the break and listen to music while you wait.

Peace...and out,
Shade
